Award Winning Plant picks the 1996 WEFTEC Innovative BioSolids award winning EnVessel Pasteurization Process. Visit Reedsburg, Wisconsin.
![]()
Reedsburg was voted by the United States EPA as "The Best Plant in Wisconsin" in 1994. More recently in 1996, Reedsburg was named "Facility of the Year" by the Southern District of the Wisconsin Wastewater Operators Association.

Tom Scanlon, Wastewater Superintendent, says that with their new System they have eliminated a dedicated person who hauled 1% sludge "every day they could". The new system allows them to apply one year's worth of BioSolids in only 3 weeks! The City owns approximately 40 acres of prime farmland, and all of the BioSolids are currently given to a local farmer who leases the property from the City. Feed corn and oats are grown with the Pasteurized BioSolids. For additional information contact Tom Scalon at 608-524-3615.

500 Dry Tons per Year are generated.
Pasteurized Biosolids are applied at 6 Dry Tons per Acre
A Somat Screw Press dewaters WAS and primary sludge that is blended in a holding tank with a submersible mixer. Sludge fed to the EnVessel Pasteurization System averages 14-15% cake.
Western Lime of Green Bay furnishes the Hi-Calcium Screen (1/4 x 0) Quicklime at approximately $75 per ton, delivered.
The first four months of stored Pasteurized BioSolids easily passed the fecal coliform test that were performed right before this spring's application to the corn field.
The pasteurized BioSolids are applied with a conventional, rear discharge, John Deere manure spreader. The consistency of the Reedsburg Pasteurized product allows the farmer to achieve uniform distribution of the material with this type of tractor pulled spreader.
